JANE LOWELL EVANS, Co President
Needham, MA -- since 2017

Jane Lowell Evans is a South Orange, NJ native who graduated from Cornell University with a BS and MEng in Electrical Engineering. She was a camper at Eagle Island from 1969-1972, a counselor in 1975, Sailing Director in 1977, and an occasional Women’s Weekend attendee. After years as a digital hardware designer at Motorola, Jane took a parenting break, and then returned to work at her current job as a technical writer. Jane wears many volunteer hats, including Girl Scout Leader, Robotics Team Mentor, Community Garden Board Member, and Quilt Show Director. She lives in Needham, MA.

KARIN WALSH RUTLEDGE, Co President
Washington, D.C. — Since 2016

Karin Walsh Rutledge grew up in New Jersey and lives in Washington, D.C.  She works at the U.S. Department of State, where her focus is foreign assistance for the former Soviet States. Karin worked for the Eurasia Foundation as the Director of Government Relations, for the Close Up Foundation, a civic education organization, and in other government relations positions.  Karin has a Master’s in International Management (finance concentration) from the University of Maryland University College, and a Bachelor’s in Russian Studies and International Relations from Colgate University.  Karin studied at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow in 1983 and has traveled overseas extensively for work and pleasure. Karin credits her independence and sense of adventure to her experiences at Eagle Island Camp where she was a camper and junior counselor from 1976-1980 and attended Family Camp with her husband and son for three summers prior to the closing of the camp.

STEF GOODSELL, Vice President
New York City, NY -- Since 2018

Stef Goodsell, a resident of NYC, has extensive experience in communications and public relations in the private sector, for non-profits, and in the political field. She is currently a VP in the Strategic Communications Division at The Glover Park Group, one of the top communications consulting and public relations firms on the East Coast, and was a principal at Kekst, a strategic, corporate, and financial communications firm, for 8 years, and held various roles working for Senators Clinton and Gillibrand. Stef serves on the Leadership Council of Lawyers for Children. She holds a B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude-Columbia University. Stef was at Eagle Island Camp from 1996 to 2005, as a camper, CIT, and Assistant Sailing Director.  

SUNNY LARSON
New York City, NY -- Since 2023

Sunny is a graduate of Yale University with a B.A. in History and International Studies and holds a Masters's Degree in Nationalism Studies from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. She leads the K-12 education portfolio at Bloomberg Philanthropies, which invests in strong education leaders across the country through aligned programmatic and advocacy strategies. Prior to joining Bloomberg, she worked at the Social Impact Exchange, building coalitions of foundations to scale highly effective nonprofit programs, policies, and practices. She is a former camper and counselor who grew up near the Adirondacks. Sunny lives in New York City with her family.

BENITA LAW-DIAO
Albany, NY -- Since 2023

Benita is a member of the Adirondack Park Agency Board, an Albany resident, and a work weekend Volunteer who spends as much time as possible in the Adirondacks. Throughout her life, she has had a passion for the environment and sustainable living. As the former President of the Hudson-Mohawk Council and a National Board Member of Hostelling International USA, she led efforts to encourage more people of color to participate in travel and recreation. A trained nutritionist, she has had an extensive career in a series of roles with the NYS Dept of Public Health. She is also the Outdoor Afro Leader for Albany and Upstate New York and has already been highly instrumental in connecting us with new partners.

DAN LONG
Brooklyn, NY & Saranac Lake, NY -- Since 2023

Dan lives in Brooklyn and spends much of his time at his home on Upper Saranac Lake with his daughter (current EI camper), Penelope, and his alumni spouse, Lauren Parmington. He holds a dual B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.A. in Philosophy (Mathematical Logic) from Stanford University, and was a Ph.D. candidate in Mathematics and Computer Science at Universite de Paris 7 – Denis Diderot. He began his career in structured finance at Barclays Capital issuing cash, synthetic, and hybrid structured product assets. Dan is now a Partner at Cohen Circle FinTech Ventures leading growth investments.

MARINA PADAKIS LOWRY, Vice President
New York City, NY -- Since 2018

Marina Padakis Lowry lives in New York City. She has had a 20+-year career in book publishing, and is currently Executive Managing Editor of Union Square & Co., the publishing arm of Barnes & Noble. Marina was an Eagle Island camper and staffer in the 1980s as well as a Family Camper and Women’s Weekender. She has been an active on- and off-island volunteer, with camp committees, event coordination, and copy editing. Her other volunteer work includes coaching teens with Girls Write Now, the New York Women’s Culinary Alliance, and Room to Grow. Marina holds a B.A. in Economics from Earlham College.

CAROLE MACKENZIE, Treasurer
Livingston, NJ -- Since 2014

Carole L. Mackenzie a Livingston, NJ resident, earned a B.S. in Math/Physics from Mount Holyoke College and an M.S. in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology.  As a Senior Systems Engineer for General Dynamics Mission Systems, she works with customers and design engineers on requirements for specialty design engineering products.  In addition to her engineering duties, she has led the annual Take-Our-Daughters/Sons-to-Work-Day program at her company for 22 years to promote STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) opportunities with youth. She helped found Little Angels Christian Montessori School in Livingston, NJ in 2011, and serves as their treasurer.

WILL HARRINGTON
Dedham, MA-- Since 2018

Will is a lifelong resident of greater Boston and is the son of two former Eagle Island staffers. He spent five years in the education field, first working for a nonprofit and then as a classroom teacher. In 2022 he made the decision to pivot and is now finishing his MBA as a full-time student at Boston University, focusing on finance and strategy, with a particular interest in their intersection in behavioral finance. On his own time, he enjoys hiking and camping and is working on his Adirondack 46. He also enjoys reading and aims annually for a book a week.

ELIZABETH (LIZ) MOULTHROP, Secretary
Hillside, NJ– Since 2022

Elizabeth (Liz) Moulthrop has an abundance of expertise in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Bachelor of Music from The Boyer School of Music and Dance at Temple University and a Performer’s Certificate from the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University - she is also has a Masters of Public Administration in Social and Urban Policy at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Liz is the Executive Director of El Sistema USA - a member organization that serves as the national voice for the intersection of equity and excellence in music education. She is also the President of Notes for Change, Inc., a non-profit supporting a variety of music education programs that serve as the fiscal agent for the World Ensemble. She attended Eagle Island from 2000 -2007 and at that time, was a camper, CIT, junior counselor, and a part of the sailing staff. 

STEVE REICH, Assistant Treasurer
Livingston, NJ -- Since 2015

Steve Reich, a Livingston, NJ resident, earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Yale University; an M.A. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and an M.B.A. in Finance from New York University Stern School of Business.  Steve has spent his most recent years as a Financial Analyst at Citibank and Roubini Global Economics as well as Treasurer for Grace Lutheran Church in Livingston.  Steve has been a great supporter of Eagle Island as a long-time volunteer working on island maintenance and repairs.

INGA THRASER
Leonia, NJ and Saranac Lake, NY -- Since 2023

Inga resides in Leonia, NJ, and is a homeowner in Saranac Lake who has forged many meaningful connections and is a very active member of the local community. She has a B.A. in Journalism/Advertising from Louisiana State University and is a Licensed Cosmetologist. She is a 6-time Emmy Winner and 5-time 706 Guild Hair Stylist Nominee for Saturday Night Live, where she has spent over 20 seasons. Inga is also a current camp staff parent and Women’s Weekend participant. Her professional experience in providing premier customer service will be invaluable in her new role as Board Member.

JOE WILLIAMS
Saranac Lake, NY – Since 2020

Joe Williams, who splits his time between Brooklyn, NY and Saranac Lake, was a longtime camper and staff member at Floodwood Mountain Reservation, where he frequently led Boy Scout treks past (and sometimes stopping at) Eagle Island. Joe currently leads the Walton Education Coalition, an education policy advocacy organization and founded the political group Democrats for Education Reform. He spent the bulk of his career working as an award-winning journalist for the New York Daily News, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Milwaukee Sentinel. In his spare time he enjoys skiing, hiking, and loudly cheering on the Marquette University basketball team.

ELLEN WINN, Vice President
Montclair, NJ – Since 2021

Ellen Winn first came to Eagle Island as a camper in 1985 and spent the next decade as a camper, CIT, counselor, and Program Director. Ellen currently serves as an independent education policy consultant. The bulk of Ellen’s career has been spent working to improve public education via government, nonprofit, policy, advocacy, and philanthropic initiatives. Most recently, Ellen built and led the School Systems Leaders Fellowship, a national leadership development program for aspiring school systems leaders. Ellen holds a BA from Haverford College in urban studies and a Masters in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Ellen also serves on the Board of Forte Preparatory Academy, a charter school in Queens. Ellen spends a great deal of her time wrangling her three boys (all under the age of five) and occasionally runs, skis, and knits.

CHRIS HILDEBRAND, Director Emeritus - Appointed 2022
Vauxhall, NJ -- Board of Directors 2013 - 2022

Chris Hildebrand is a graduate of Gettysburg College and a longtime New Jersey resident who retired from Verizon as a Communications Technician in 2003. A camper at Eagle Island Camp from 1955-1959, she was in Waterfront, Tripper and Mariner units where she earned the prestigious Skipper rating, went to Sea Pines Camp as a CIT, and returned to Eagle Island as a Mariner counselor from 1961-1963. In December 2006, Chris initiated the Eagle Island Camp alumnae group with her sister Ginny Hildebrand (also an Eagle Island alumna). Working with the GSCGEHC council staff, she reached out to find Eagle Island alumnae, and helped lead fundraising for capital improvements at Eagle Island Great Camp as well as the 70th anniversary commemoration and subsequent successful alumnae reunions.  She has worked as a full-time volunteer for Eagle Island since late 2006, first through the Girl Scout Council before and after the merger, and then through FEI/Eagle Island, Inc. She has been invaluable as Communications Coordinator.
